X-Men: First Class (2011)

This movie should be avoided because it involves and/or promotes profanity (at least 12 instances), blasphemy (God's name is taken in vain at least 15 times), disdain for authority, immodesty, sexual immorality, deceit, and evolution. Satanic sorcery is promoted under the guise of "special mutant powers," for the superhuman, miraculous abilities the characters are depicted as having can only be attributed to the devil. Since its heroes practice sin, this movie conditions viewers to substitute evil for good and good for evil (Isa. 5:20) by praising evildoers who ought to be despised (Ps. 15:4; Pro. 28:4).

Violations of God's Law

Defiance against God

This movie violates the First Commandment.

• Sorcery:
  • Xavier is depicted as being able to read people's minds, freeze people in time, and force people to make decisions against their will; he refers to himself and is referred to as a "telepath"
  • Magneto is depicted as having the power to levitate and control metal and magnetism
  • Emma is depicted as having the power of telepathy, who reads people's minds and telepathically communicates with them
  • Riptide is depicted as having the power to create and control tornadoes (this is but a blasphemous usurpation of God's prerogative, who alone possesses such power)
  • Azazel is depicted as having the power to teleport himself and anyone to whom he is holding (he is shown suddenly grabbing men, teleporting into the sky, releasing them, and teleporting to safety, leaving them to fall to their deaths)
• Evolution is repeatedly referenced and promoted
• At least 8 appeals to luck, 7 of which are by Xavier

Blasphemy and Profanity

This movie violates the Third Commandment. God has warned that he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain (Ex. 20:7).

• Xavier takes God's name in vain at least 5 times
• Moira utters "God" and "Jesus" in vain
• Darwin utters "Jesus" in vain
• Magneto, Colonel Hendry, a Navy sailor, and a captain each take God's name in vain at least once
• CIA Director John McCone takes God's name in vain at least three times
• Xavier breaks his promise not to ever read Mystique's mind
• Profane references: hell (7), damn (1), among others

Disdain for Authority

This movie promotes violations of the Fifth Commandment. Those who despise government are likened to brute beasts who will be condemned (2Pe. 2:10-12; Jude 1:8-10).

• Vigilantism: Magneto takes it upon himself to avenge his mother's death by pursuing and murdering those whom he considers responsible.

Abuse, Violence, and Murder

This movie promotes violations of the Sixth Commandment. God hates those who love violence (Ps. 11:5). The Bible says those who hate are murderers, and no murderer has eternal life (1Jo. 3:15), and warns that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1Co. 6:9-10).

• There is a party scene featuring drinking, in which Xavier is shown drinking a large alcoholic beverage to the cheers of the crowd chanting, "Drink! Drink! Drink!" He is later shown visibly drunk.
• Magneto tells a banker, "I would love to kill you" after extracting information about the whereabouts of Sebastian, whom he seeks to murder
• There is a scene in which Magneto deliberately murders a disarmed, incapacitated man
• In a scene in which Xavier tells Magneto, "There is so much more to you than you know. Not just pain and anger. There is good, too. I felt it." Such a scene stirs up sympathy, causing the audience to justify and support a vengeful and murderous man, who ought to be condemned and put to death.
• Magneto murders Sebastian to avenge his mother by pushing a metal coin, using his magnetic powers, slowly through Sebastian's head, while Xavier kept him frozen in time

Immodesty and Sexual Immorality

This movie violates and promotes violations of the Seventh Commandment. The Bible warns that those who do not repent of sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10), but will be judged by God (Heb. 13:4). We are commanded to "flee fornication" (1Co. 6:18).

• There is a strip club scene filled with many female strippers shown in bras and underwear, and them escorting their male clientele into private rooms. Moira, an undercover CIA agent, is shown stripping down to her bra and underwear in order to blend in. Her partner Levene, gazing upon the strippers, says, "Hello, girls. Wow! Very nice."
• In a separate strip club scene, Xavier and Magneto are shown gazing upon the strippers and giving them money, to which they get a private dance by Angel, who is shown taking off her bra (from behind)
• Moira and Emma are repeatedly shown in a bra and lingerie. Emma is shown in a bikini.
• Emma (January Jones, unmarried) is shown undressing before a Russian general (Rade Serbedzija, married), then on top of him, embracing one another, with him kissing her chest
• Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence, unmarried) and Hank (Nicholas Hoult, unmarried) are shown kissing, and later her sitting on his lap, who in real life dated for a few years while filming
• Mystique is shown naked under the covers in Magneto's (Michael Fassbender, unmarried) bed, seducing him, and they later are shown kissing
• Emma is shown naked under the covers in Magneto's bed, seducing him (the movie is depicting Mystique as having transformed herself into Emma's appearance)
• Xavier (James McAvoy, married) and Moira (Rose Byrne, unmarried) are shown kissing
• Mystique and Angel are repeatedly shown immodestly dressed, showing cleavage
• There is a scene in which the camera spans up Mystique's body, which is basically nude, fully exposed apart from blue paint

Deceit

This movie promotes violations of the Ninth Commandment. The Bible warns that all liars, whom God hates (Pro. 6:16-19; 12:22), shall have their part in the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8).

• After reading a woman's mind and then ordering the exact drink she likes, Xavier says, "Lucky guess" when she asks how he knew that.
• After a man asks Moira, "Hey baby, you want to find a quiet place?" while she is posing as a stripper, she lies, "I'm so sorry, I've been booked by Colonel Hendry."
