X-Men (2000)

This movie should be avoided because it involves and/or promotes profanity (at least 11 instances), blasphemy (God's name is taken in vain at least 1 time, his fear is denounced, and his work of creation and providence is despised), immodesty, sexual immorality, theft, evolution, and feminism. Satanic sorcery is promoted under the guise of "special mutant powers," for the superhuman, miraculous abilities the characters are depicted as having can only be attributed to the devil. Since its heroes practice sin, this movie conditions viewers to substitute evil for good and good for evil (Isa. 5:20) by praising evildoers who ought to be despised (Ps. 15:4; Pro. 28:4).

Defiance against God

This movie violates the First Commandment.

• Sorcery:
  • Xavier is a self-professed psychic, who is depicted as being able to control people's minds, making them think or do whatever he wants. In one scene, Xavier communicates to Magneto telepathically using Sabretooth as a medium
  • Magneto is depicted as having the power to levitate and control metal and magnetism
  • Jean is depicted as having the power of telekinesis and telepathy, who can move things with her mind
  • Storm is depicted as having the power to "manipulate the weather at will"—she controls the wind, thunderstorms, lightning (this is but a blasphemous usurpation of God's prerogative, who alone possesses such power)
  • Pyro is depicted as having the power to manipulate fire
  • Bobby is depicted as having the power to create ice
• Evolution is repeatedly referenced and promoted
• At least one appeal to luck

Blasphemy and Profanity

This movie violates the Third Commandment. God has warned that he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain (Ex. 20:7).

• Scott (Cyclops) takes God's name in vain
• Magneto blasphemes God, denounces the idea of fearing him, and despises his work of creation and providence
• One of the mutants is shown running on water
• Profane references: hell (5), damn (3), among others

Disdain for Authority

This movie promotes violations of the Fifth Commandment. Those who disobey parents are worthy of death according to the judgment of God (Rom. 1:30-32); those who despise government are likened to brute beasts who will be condemned (2Pe. 2:10-12; Jude 1:8-10).

• Xavier admits his students are "mostly runaways," thereby confirming rebellion against parents
• Logan directly disobeys Xavier, his caretaker
• Feminism: Mystique is shown repeatedly fighting men

Immodesty and Sexual Immorality

This movie violates and promotes violations of the Seventh Commandment. The Bible warns that those who do not repent of sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10), but will be judged by God (Heb. 13:4). We are commanded to "flee fornication" (1Co. 6:18).

• Rogue (Anna Paquin, unmarried) and her boyfriend (Shawn Roberts, unmarried) kiss
• Scott and Jean are depicted as an unmarried couple who sleep together in the same room
• Logan repeatedly attempts to seduce Jean despite her relationship with Scott, and despite Scott telling him, "stay away from my girl."
• Mystique is repeatedly nude, with her body fully exposed, apart from being painted blue
• Rogue and Storm are repeatedly shown immodestly dressed, showing cleavage
• Kitty, and another woman, is shown immodestly dressed, showing cleavage
• Immodestly dressed people on beach, shirtless, in bikinis, etc.
• Logan is repeatedly shown shirtless. At one point he tells Jean, "So, couldn't wait to get my shirt off again, huh?"
• Senator Kelly is shown shirtless and naked (though he is shown from waist up)
• Xavier is shown shirtless

Theft

This movie promotes violations of the Eighth Commandment. The Bible warns that unrepentant thieves will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10).

• There are two scenes in which Logan steals Scott's motorcycle, both of which provoke laughter. The latter scene features Logan smiling as he does it.
