This movie should be avoided because it involves and/or promotes profanity (at least 24 instances), blasphemy (God's name is taken in vain at least 5 times), disdain for authority, immodesty, sexual immorality, and evolution. This movie introduces a grossly unbiblical and blasphemous notion of time travel, whereby those who have died are restored to life in an altered timeline; such a notion would mean that those who have died and gone to heaven or hell are brought back to life again, as a result of the prowess of mutants. Satanic sorcery is promoted under the guise of "special mutant powers," for the superhuman, miraculous abilities the characters are depicted as having can only be attributed to the devil. Since its heroes practice sin, this movie conditions viewers to substitute evil for good and good for evil (Isa. 5:20) by praising evildoers who ought to be despised (Ps. 15:4; Pro. 28:4).
Violations of God's Law
Defiance against God
This movie violates the First Commandment.
- Sorcery:
- Xavier is depicted as being able to read people's minds, freeze people in time, and force people to make decisions against their will
- Magneto is depicted as having the power to levitate and control metal and magnetism
- Bobby is depicted as having the power to create ice
- Storm is depicted as having the power to create and control weather and lightning (this is but a blasphemous usurpation of God's prerogative, who alone possesses such power)
- Time travel: the entire movie revolves around the notion of time travel, where Kitty sends Logan's consciousness back decades to his younger body, in order to alter events then so as to erase the history of the future. Thus, Logan's time travel allows (and realizes) the possibility of many of the people who had died in the previous films to be alive again. What this means is that Kitty and Logan have the power to extract people from the afterlife, whether from heaven or hell. Such an idea is entirely antithetical to a biblical worldview and explicit biblical doctrine.
- A post-credits scene shows Egyptians bowing down and worshiping the mutant Apocalypse, as he telepathically constructs Egyptian pyramids
- Evolution is repeatedly referenced and promoted
- At least 1 appeal to luck
Blasphemy and Profanity
This movie violates the Third Commandment. God has warned that he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain (Ex. 20:7).
- Logan, Mystique, and the actor portraying the US president each take God's name in vain at least once
- Xavier takes God's name in vain at least twice
- Profane references: hell (11), damn (3), among others
Disdain for Authority
This movie promotes violations of the Fifth Commandment. Those who despise government are likened to brute beasts who will be condemned (2Pe. 2:10-12; Jude 1:8-10).
- Vigilantism: Mystique takes it upon herself to avenge her fellow mutants by murdering Trask and his allies.
- Feminism: Mystique is shown repeatedly fighting men
Abuse, Violence, and Murder
This movie promotes violations of the Sixth Commandment. God hates those who love violence (Ps. 11:5). The Bible says those who hate are murderers, and no murderer has eternal life (1Jo. 3:15), and warns that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1Co. 6:9-10).
- Mystique murders Trask by shooting him in the head; she is resolved to kill anyone else who opposes her and her fellow mutants
- There is a party scene featuring drinking and drunkenness
- Xavier is depicted as abusing drugs in order to escape reality
Immodesty and Sexual Immorality
This movie violates and promotes violations of the Seventh Commandment. The Bible warns that those who do not repent of sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10), but will be judged by God (Heb. 13:4). We are commanded to "flee fornication" (1Co. 6:18).
- Logan (Hugh Jackman, married) is shown lying in bed (when he gets up out of bed, he is shown fully naked from behind, with his buttocks exposed), with Gwen (Jan Gerste), shown in her bra and underwear, who are portrayed as unmarried and having slept together. Logan is told, "You're supposed to be guarding the boss's daughter, not screwing her."
- Mystique enters into a hotel room alone with General Nhuan, who pours alcoholic drinks and says, "Show me more, baby. Clothes off."
- Mystique is repeatedly nude, with her body fully exposed, apart from being painted blue
- In a party scene, many women are shown immodestly dressed, in minidresses and showing breast cleavage
- Magneto is shown shirtless
