The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The first film introduced the idea that Hulk is essentially a transgression of God's boundaries, a surpassing of the limits God has imposed upon mankind. Such a blasphemous idea is confirmed in this film. When Dr. Sterns is asked if he has witnessed Bruce's transformation into Hulk, he responds, "I have. And it's beautiful. Godlike." So this movie would have its viewers follow along and be entertained with this concept of the Hulk being capable not only of going beyond the limits God has fixed, but of becoming like God himself. The scenes and story in this film cultivate and confirm the same kind of thinking with which Satan captivated Eve: "…ye shall be as gods…" (Gen. 3:5), and which inspired the building of the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:1-6).

This movie should be avoided because it involves and/or promotes profanity (at least 14 instances), blasphemy (God's name is taken in vain at least 10 times), immodesty, sexual immorality, and disdain for authority. Since its heroes practice sin, this movie conditions viewers to substitute evil for good and good for evil (Isa. 5:20) by praising evildoers who ought to be despised (Ps. 15:4; Pro. 28:4).

Defiance against God

This movie violates the First Commandment.

• The Hulk's power is admired by Dr. Sterns as "Godlike"
• Bruce is shown practicing Yoga meditation in order to control the rage that turns him into Hulk

Blasphemy and Profanity

This movie violates the Third Commandment. God has warned that he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain (Ex. 20:7).

• Betty and General Ross each take God's name in vain at least twice
• Leonard, a security guard, and a college student each take God's name in vain at least once
• Dr. Sterns takes God's name in vain at least three times
• Profane references: damn(7), hell (2), among others

Disdain for Authority

This movie promotes violations of the Fifth Commandment. Those who disobey parents are worthy of death according to the judgment of God (Rom. 1:30-32).

• Betty is shown treating her father disdainfully throughout the film
• Betty resolutely tells her father she will never forgive him
• Betty demands that her father never speak to her as his daughter again

Immodesty and Sexual Immorality

This movie violates and promotes violations of the Seventh Commandment. The Bible warns that those who do not repent of sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10), but will be judged by God (Heb. 13:4). We are commanded to "flee fornication" (1Co. 6:18).

• Bruce (Edward Norton, unmarried) and Betty (Liv Tyler, married) are shown embracing and kissing
• Bruce and Betty, portrayed as an unmarried couple, stay in a hotel room alone together, and engage in an over minute long make out session that almost turns into a sex scene, but is stopped short because his heart monitor indicates his level of excitement will turn him into Hulk. Such a scene defiles the minds of its audience and provokes them to laugh at the shameful sin of fornication.
• Betty is shown waking up while lying on top of Bruce.
• Bruce and Blonsky are repeatedly shown shirtless throughout the film
• In a shower scene, Bruce is shown completely naked, with exposed buttocks
• Betty is shown lying provocatively in bed, in revealing nightwear
