Little Women (2019)
This movie should be avoided because it contains profanity and blasphemy (including God's name being taken in vain at least once) and involves and/or promotes drunkenness, sexual immorality, immodesty, and deceit. This movie normalizes the sinful words and actions committed by the characters (and the actors who portray them), thus conditioning viewers to ignore, tolerate, and take pleasure in what God's Word forbids and condemns as evil, and to praise evildoers who ought to be despised (Ps. 15:4; Pro. 28:4).
Violations of God's Law
Blasphemy and Profanity
This movie violates the Third Commandment. God has warned that he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain (Ex. 20:7).
- Amy takes God's name in vain at least once
- After Beth, who is sick and near death, resigns to divine providence, saying, "We can't stop God's will," Jo arrogantly pits her will against God's: "God hasn't met my will yet. What Jo wills shall be done."
- Profane references to sinners repenting, high priest, etc.
Abuse, Violence, and Murder
This movie promotes violations of the Sixth Commandment. The Bible warns that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1Co. 6:9-10).
- Laurie is shown drunk
Immodesty and Sexual Immorality
This movie violates the Seventh Commandment. The Bible warns that those who do not repent of sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co. 6:9-10), but will be judged by God (Heb. 13:4). We are commanded to "flee fornication" (1Co. 6:18).
- John (James Norton, unmarried) and Meg (Emma Watson, unmarried) are repeatedly shown kissing throughout the film
- Laurie (Timothée Chalamet, unmarried) and Amy (Florence Pugh, unmarried) are shown kissing
- Jo (Saoirse Ronan, unmarried) and Friedrich (Louis Garrel, married) are shown kissing
- Amy and another woman are shown immodesty dressed, showing breast cleavage
Deceit
This movie promotes violations of the Ninth Commandment. The Bible warns that all liars, whom God hates (Pro. 6:16-19; 12:22), shall have their part in the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8).
- Jo lies about her "friend" writing a story, even though she herself is the author
